The Roy Choudhary office is dimly lit, the air heavy with the scent of expensive tobacco and cold secrets. Aniruddh stands by the window, his silhouette sharp and unyielding against the twilight.
Bilal enters, his footsteps hesitant, his voice barely a whisper.
"Dada... woh... Thakur ko hosh aa gaya hai." (Elder brother... he... Thakur has regained consciousness.)
The silence that follows is deafening. Aniruddh doesn't flinch. He doesn't turn. He only lets out a slow, chilling puff of smoke.
"Hmm."
Bilal swallows hard, the tension in the room suffocating him. "Dada... ab kya?" (Elder brother... what now?)
Aniruddh’s eyes glint with a predatory coldness in the glass reflection.
"Nazar rakho uspe... Bass." (Keep an eye on him... That's all.)
Hours later, the telephone in Aniruddh’s cabin jangled like a warning bell. He picked it up, expecting a business update, but the voices on the other end were jagged with panic.
"Malik! Bahurani ji... aaj..." (Master! Mistress... today...) Koyli’s voice broke into a sob, unable to finish the sentence.
Then, Dida’s voice cut through, sounding more fragile and terrified than he had ever heard her. "Aniruddh! Beta, jaldi ghar aa! Woh...bahu" (Aniruddh! Son, come home quickly! That... daughter-in-law)
The line went dead.
